One thing that I have been kicking myself over was that I didn't take my leftovers around to give away or swap at the end of the con. A few people came to me, which was great, but not enough!
It would be really nice if we could add a sort of 'artist's half hour' at the end, for everyone to just bring over the things they are willing to swap, or want to get rid of, and have a little swap-a-round type thing. It would also be a good opportunity to pass around our DA's
Does anyone think this would be feasible? Or have any other things they'd liek to see? |

Would like to see artist get togethers on a more formal basis.
Its ttttooooo long between events and I, and am sure others, would love to meet artists, organise commissions and just catch up with what everyone is doing... and artists themselves getting together regularly to chat, share their work and discuss?
I know we have artist meets every so often, but make them a regular thing, and make them open to EVERYONE. |

I think the 'Guess The Song' compition needed a bit of re-working, it was a little to complicated and some of the songs could be given away by just the hint and not the song itself. I rekon if you had buzzers or something for the contestants and just play the song and whoever buzzes in first gets to guess, or something like that (thats just my opinion, someone could probibly come up with something better but I though I'd just get my opinion in anyway).
Also the cosplay cafe might be better off being held in a larger place than GNC cos it was a bit crouded and could do with a little more space, me and my freinds wanted to come in but there were no tables.
Other than that I thought the event was awesome and im looking forward to next year.
(P.S. Zeb, did you sell a Bome figure of Ignis from Jingai Makyō on TradeMe a couple of years ago, I bought one of some called Zeb and I was just curious if you were the same person) |

I guess next time we have to run a poll (or use Doddle, an online time scheduling service)to select which day to hold the artist meeting. It's uneay to fit everybody's schedule, especially for the large-scale artist meeting.
Also, artist meeting is always OPEN to anyone who feels interested to tag along. We always have non-artist people attending the meetings from the past to present. |

Anthony to make it easier also mix up locations; love the GNC, but perhaps at someone's house on a Sunday every odd day? So one weekend Sat at GNC, another weekend Sun at someone's house. Thereby allowing those who can't come on Saturdays to attend the Sunday ones.
Don't do polls, they never work cause artists are as easy to organise as cats (sorry guys, but its true!)

I have a suggestion for artists with tables next year.
If you shout your prices at the top of your lungs, I swear to god I'll feast on your innards.
Oh wait...that wasn't a suggestion, it was a THREAT.
LOL jk!....(but seriously. I will be taking a bib and a set of sharp, shiny cutlery next year in case anyone decides to go all 'chinese fishmarket' at the event)
Just doin what jesus would do... |

I'll bring a camera (I don' actually mind, except then I feel like I should be shouting too, and once I start, there's no stopping me ) |

lmao i actually thought it was quite interesting for a little while, but then it just kept going, and ugh... my ears, they bleed.
That being said, finding an alternative way to get rid of remaining stock (like the artist half our that was suggested) i think would be a good idea. |

Yeah you guys were kinda stuck between the two tables who were doing it.
All in good fun, but yeah, probably better ways to get rid of stock... question is... should you even be in that position?
One problem this year that I saw (and this is not a dig at any artist) was the prominance of the SAME sort of thing, and each table had a LOT of it.
Prints, keyrings and bookmarks.
Literally EVERY table had them. There was nothing that made tables that solely had these things POP and stand out from the rest; and I know personally I would have completely skimmed past them because I was only buying traditional art (those that had little signs that said they were taking commissions I usually took up depending on whether I liked their style/pricing.)
As for other event goers, not everyone buys prints or keyrings or, for those who've attended in the past, there are only so many prints and keyrings you can buy.
There were hardly any BOOKS this year. I'm looking at the 5 I did get and two were from the same artist.
So perhaps we also need to have discussions on what sort of different merchandise artists should think about?
The stand out merchandise for unique-ness and "thinking outside the box" for me was definitely Steven's 3-d papercraft kits. |

I agree that the name of the event should be changed as noone really is making doujin anymore.
Perhaps, Keyring Overload? |

Or perhaps more of an emphasis of less of, but higher quality ones. I think that there's a market for these things but it seems to be the ONLY thing people sell now.
The thing is, without the option of crafts, there's only a certain amount you CAN do. I think some emphasis needs to be put on options you can do and stuff we want to see less of. IF we don't want clay key chains, then that's cool, but when does it stop being a craft and start being art cause to me, it is an art, and it's better than photocopied key rings. Was it ever really a huge issue to the con? Or is it more of a definition of what the con was thing? |
